Technical leadership and project coordination for the Distribution Field Engineering and Interconnection teams was provided as part of the Aliso Canyon Energy Storage Projects. The Aliso Canyon Energy Storage Project was a result of a CPUC decision to fast track approximately 100MW of energy storage in the SCE and SDG&E territory. This was in response to the crisis of a natural gas leak at the Aliso Canyon natural gas facility, threatening the availability of necessary generation to keep the lights on in Southern California. To meet the necessary grid demands, the fast track projects were to interconnect these energy storage units within four months. A process that can take up to two years. This included the interconnection and commissioning of the 20 MW SCE Energy Storage units on the SCE system at the Mira Loma Substation. DHS Consulting staff was responsible for leading the Distribution Field Engineering teams through the technical interconnection process to ensure consistency.
Distributed Energy Resource Integration (DESI) l Battery Storage Pilot Program
Project & Construction Management
DHS Consulting was selected to provide project/construction management support services for the DESI Battery Storage pilot program. The battery energy storage system in Orange was SCE’s first pilot system deployed to support its distribution grid. Its primary purpose was the support industrial customers with reliability and a more levelized load profile, especially during the summer months when there is an increased load on the system. The system is capable of supplying 2.4 megawatts of power continuously for about an hour and a half.
